    Importance of Core Support

Core stability is the ability to create extremity movement without off-setting the spine or pelvis. Here's why it matters.

    Importance of Core Support

Core stability can be easily explained as the ability to create extremity movement without off-setting movements of the spine or pelvis. On the topic of core stability, Physiopedia notes that "to allow movement, carry loads and protect the spinal cord and nerve roots, stability is required."

There are many muscles in the core region that are imperative for postural alignment and dynamic postural equilibrium during activities. The body works very hard to ensure all of these muscles are coordinated and working together.

So what does this all mean?

When the core is properly supported during exercise and intense movements, the spine and pelvic floor are able to avoid unintended movement and injury. It also produces better posture, allowing the body to perform more efficiently — without wasted energy. Ultimately, this results in a better performance.
